OUR FARM
|
Ameripaca Alpaca Breeding Company is located in the rolling hills of Galesville, Maryland on 116 acres of historic farmland, part of which was once planted in alfalfa and corn crops. Today, the old barn and original house have been replaced by our private residence, as well as at least 10 other barns. Crops are no longer grown on the main Ameripaca fields, as all have been converted to grass pastures for maintaining our current herd of over 300 alpacas.

Much planning has gone into the layout of the Ameripaca farm. The alpacas are divided into groups of similar age, sex, and breeding status. All barns connect by runways to the main office barn, the site of monthly herd health, yearly shearing, and most breeding and ultrasounding. Of the 10 barns at Ameripaca, some are simply typical 3-sided barns to give the alpacas in that area a place to seek shelter from the elements. Some of the other, usually larger barns, have more sophisticated purposes.
